I have a soft spot for handbags that don’t look like every other bag on the shelf. Give me an unusual silhouette, an interesting colour or a print that makes me look twice, and I am immediately interested.
The ECCO Pot Bag caught my attention for exactly that reason. At ₹17,999, it is certainly an investment piece, but its distinctive shape, unusual colour combination and surprisingly spacious interior make it stand out from the usual crossbody bags.
I tried the bag to see whether its design justifies the price, and while I loved the look and functionality, I do think the price may make it a considered purchase.
First impressions: A bag that makes you look twice
The first thing I noticed about the ECCO Pot Bag is its unusual shape. It has a compact, almost rounded silhouette that gives it a character of its own, rather than looking like another rectangular crossbody.
The colour and print are equally distinctive. The combination of embossed bison-grain leather with smooth, slightly shiny ECCO Leather creates a two-tone effect that adds plenty of visual interest to the bag.
Despite being relatively compact, it doesn’t look particularly tiny when worn. In fact, it strikes a nice balance between being a statement accessory and still feeling like something you could carry every day.
For someone who usually gravitates towards classic handbags, this felt like a refreshing change.
Surprisingly spacious for its size
This was probably the biggest pleasant surprise for me.
The ECCO Pot Bag measures 20.5 cm in height, 13.5 cm in width and 9.5 cm in depth, so it isn’t a large handbag by any means. But the shape gives it enough room to carry your everyday essentials without feeling cramped.
The main compartment has a water-repellent microfiber lining, and there is also a leather card slot inside.
I particularly liked that the bag doesn’t sacrifice usability for its unusual design. You can fit your essentials comfortably, while the compact proportions keep it from becoming cumbersome.
At 0.30 kg, it is also relatively lightweight, which makes a difference when you’re carrying it for several hours.
The details make it feel considered
The bag uses a one-click magnetic closure, which makes it easy to open when you need something quickly while still keeping your belongings secure.
The adjustable leather shoulder strap is another practical feature. It has a snap-and-lock system with five adjustment positions, allowing the strap drop to be adjusted between 18 cm and 43 cm.
That means you can change how the bag sits depending on whether you’re wearing it over a lighter outfit or layering it over something bulkier.
There is also a subtle metal ECCO logo on the exterior, rather than a large, attention-grabbing branding moment. I prefer this approach because the shape and leather finish already give the bag enough personality.
Is the ECCO Pot Bag worth ₹17,999?
This is where I have mixed feelings.
From a design perspective, I really like it. It is unusual without being difficult to style, spacious without looking bulky and distinctive without relying on excessive embellishment.
The leather construction and detailing also give it a premium feel.
But at ₹17,999, I think the price will be the biggest consideration for most shoppers.
This isn’t the kind of handbag I’d recommend as a casual impulse purchase. If you’re looking for a versatile everyday crossbody and are willing to invest in a distinctive design from a premium footwear and accessories brand, it could make sense.
If, however, you’re simply looking for a practical crossbody that carries your essentials, there are likely more affordable options that can do the job.
For me, the justification for the price lies primarily in the design and quality rather than sheer functionality.
My verdict
The ECCO Pot Bag is one of those accessories that proves a practical handbag doesn’t have to look boring.
I loved the unusual colour and print, distinctive silhouette and surprisingly spacious interior. The adjustable strap and lightweight construction also make it comfortable enough for everyday use.
My only hesitation is the price. At ₹17,999, it is definitely an investment, and I’d want to be certain that the distinctive design is something I’d continue reaching for before making the purchase.
But if you’re bored of the usual crossbody silhouettes and want something that feels a little different, this is a chic option worth considering.
