Bengaluru: Union Health Minister J P Nadda on Tuesday announced a month-long Seva Sankalp Abhiyan across the country from September 17, featuring blood donation and medical camps, cleanliness drives, beneficiary outreach and a series of programmes to highlight the Narendra Modi government’s achievements.
The BJP leader said the campaign, being organised to mark PM Modi’s birthday, would focus on service, good governance and welfare of the poor, while also taking the government’s schemes and policies to beneficiaries at the grassroots.
“This year’s Seva Sankalp Abhiyan is special in many respects,” Nadda said, noting that October 7, 2026 would mark 25 years since Modi first became Gujarat chief minister. He said Modi’s journey from Gujarat to the Centre had been marked by an “unbroken” resolve and commitment, with the mission remaining unchanged despite responsibilities changing.
Addressing a press conference here, the former BJP president said the campaign would begin on September 17 with Seva Diwas, when BJP workers would organise cleanliness drives, blood donation camps, medical camps and other service activities. At 7 pm, he said people would light a “Diya of Blessings” wishing Modi good health and a long life in service of the country.
A series of programmes would be organised during the month, including “Mere Sapnon Ka Bharat”, featuring drawing and speech competitions, Namo Seva to showcase beneficiaries’ experiences, and Angan Milan Seva to honour Anganwadi and ASHA workers and engage women beneficiaries and children, Nadda said.
Under “Seva Ki Kahani”, beneficiaries at every booth would make reels narrating how they had benefited from government schemes and upload them with a common hashtag. Around 10 programmes would be organised at each booth, the minister said.
A Seva Kalash Yatra involving bike rallies and padayatras would take government welfare policies to the people, besides a pledge campaign for a developed India by 2047, he explained.
Nadda said a Vadnagar-Varanasi Seva Yatra would also be organised, with one journey travelling from Modi’s birthplace Vadnagar to his parliamentary constituency Varanasi and another in the opposite direction. Water from rivers across the country would be collected for jalabhishek at the Hatkeshwar Temple in Vadnagar and Kashi Vishwanath Temple in Varanasi.
Camps would be held at various places during the yatras to ensure last-mile delivery of government schemes, he said.
Under the Seva Setu Abhiyan, block and ward-level camps would be organised for three to four days, bringing government programmes together at one place and registering beneficiaries who had either not received eligible benefits or faced difficulties in accessing them, the minister said.
Nadda also announced “Seva Ke Rang, Rashtra Ke Sang”, featuring human rangolis, and a Seva First Innovation Challenge involving youth, students, startups, professionals and innovators, with five regional competitions.
A Sushasan Samvad would be held at four locations on October 17, when senior BJP leaders would present the vision of Viksit Bharat, followed by an address by Modi to the country, he said.
“This culture has been propagated and established by our prime minister,” Nadda said, referring to what he described as a shift towards development-oriented, accountable and responsive politics.
The BJP leader said Modi had changed the political culture of the country by replacing “divide and rule, appeasement, nepotism, corruption and policy paralysis” with development, service, good governance and welfare of the poor.
Nadda also highlighted the government’s economic and welfare achievements, saying India had moved from the “Fragile Five” economies in 2014 to the world’s top five and was moving towards the third position.
He cited a 7.8 per cent growth rate in the first quarter of 2026-27, expansion of national highways from 91,000 km to 1.46 lakh km, and an increase in airports from 74 in 2014 to 165.
According to him, defence production had risen from Rs 46,429 crore to Rs 1.78 lakh crore, while defence exports had increased from Rs 686 crore to Rs 38,424 crore.
On Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT), Nadda said Rs 53 lakh crore had been transferred to beneficiaries since its inception, eliminating middlemen, while internet connections had risen to 97 crore.
On health, Nadda said the health budget had increased from Rs 35,000 crore in 2014 to Rs 1,06,530 crore currently.
The BJP leader said more than 63 crore people were covered under Ayushman Bharat with health coverage of Rs 5 lakh, while everyone above 70 years of age was covered irrespective of caste or language.
The number of medical colleges had risen from 387 to 858, while undergraduate and postgraduate medical seats had increased by 177 per cent and 176 per cent respectively, he said.
Nadda said 1.86 lakh Ayushman Arogya Mandirs had been established and around 43 crore people screened for hypertension, diabetes, mental health, dental, ENT, eye and other conditions.
He also said 80 lakh girls had received HPV vaccination against a target of 1.02 crore.
Nadda said the BJP’s approach was guided by GYAN – Garib, Yuva, Annadata and Nari, aimed at ensuring dignity and empowerment for the poor, opportunities for youth, prosperity for farmers and greater leadership and participation for women.
