When tourists travel around India, a lot of them complain about the cleanliness. However, one railway station in Kerala has pleasantly surprised the internet. On August 12, Anmol, a travel content creator and vlogger, shared an Instagram Reel featuring Kerala’s Kasaragod railway station.
According to Anmol, since childhood, he had always heard that Kerala is the state of educated and progressive people. But after coming to the state and witnessing the level of cleanliness and hygiene at Kasaragod railway station, he saw it firsthand.
‘This is not Japan…’
In a Reel titled ‘This is not Japan, it’s Kerala’, Anmol, who also goes by Backpacker Anmol on Instagram, shared, “I am not sure whether I am standing in Kerala or Japan. I am in the northern part of Kerala, the first district on this side. I am in Kasaragod.”
Expressing his amazement at the cleanliness of the station, he exclaimed, “Just check out the railway station here. Just see the level of cleanliness here. Doesn’t it feel as if we are standing in some railway station in Japan? I mean, ignore the cleanliness on the platform, you can’t even find a single speck of dirt on this railway track.” Take a look at Kasaragod station:
The incredible facilities
Apart from clean platforms and litter-free railway tracks, Anmol also highlighted the amazing facilities he saw at the railway station. According to him, the station was equipped with a cabin that had working massage chairs, which he used for a relaxing session.
Often at Indian railway stations, people complain about non-functioning ATMs and dirty drinking water areas and waiting rooms, but here Anmol saw working ATMs, clean waiting areas, and even a hygienic drinking water area.
Litter-free and clean floors
He also highlighted that there were dustbins everywhere, and people were keeping the area clean by not littering around them. He added that the floors and the chairs in the waiting area were shining, highlighting the level of cleanliness. “The waiting areas also have clean washrooms for both men and women,” he added.
“Honestly, this is the first time in my life I’ve seen such a clean and beautiful railway station in India. It’s only my first day in Kerala, but after seeing this, I already have a feeling that this state is going to win my heart,” he added.
How did the internet react?
Many were impressed with what they saw in Anmol’s video and praised the people of Kerala for their civic sense. One Instagram user commented, “Because educated people in Kerala use their knowledge and common sense to maintain proper civic sense.”
Another commented, “The power of 100% literacy,”
“Many parts of India, particularly in the North, still have a lot to learn when it comes to civic responsibility—and changing that mindset seems incredibly difficult,” someone else wrote.
Another user added, “Welcome to Kasaragod… As a local, it’s so awesome seeing a traveller like you exploring our region.” A user commented, “Glad to see our hometown getting the appreciation it deserves.”
