In today’s fast-paced world, finding a moment of calm can feel almost impossible. Our minds are constantly busy, jumping from one thought to another, while our bodies carry the weight of stress and daily pressures. This is where meditation helps. It is not just a practice, but a way to reconnect with yourself. When practised with sincerity and consistency, meditation can bring clarity, calm, and a deep sense of inner balance.
Want to know how to meditate for the best results? This guide to meditation techniques, shared by Aathman Awareness Centre, a non-profit spiritual organisation founded by HH Guruji Sundar in 2002, focuses on helping individuals experience true inner transformation through dedicated spiritual practice. According to their teachings, the key to receiving the full benefits of meditation lies in being sincere and committed to your sadhna (practice).

Here are five powerful meditation techniques that can truly transform your life:
Chakra Meditation
Chakra meditation cannot be rushed. It requires at least 15 to 30 minutes of daily practice to experience real benefits. When you sit quietly with your eyes closed, your senses gradually withdraw from the outside world. This helps conserve the energy that would otherwise be spent on constant activity.
In Kundalini Yoga, this stored energy is used to awaken the dormant kundalini shakti at the base of the spine. This energy can then be guided through different chakras (energy centres in the body), each associated with specific physical and emotional functions.
There are nine primary chakras, from the Root Chakra (Mooladhar) to the Crown Chakra (Sahasrara). As energy flows through and activates these chakras, it can support better physical health, improved mental clarity, emotional balance, and even relief from issues like stress, insomnia, and digestive problems.
You can practise this in two ways:
- Spend about 5 minutes on each chakra (a 45-minute session), or
- Focus on one chakra for the entire duration to deepen its benefits
- For example, meditating on the Third Eye Chakra can enhance intuition and concentration.
Note: This is an advanced practice and should ideally be learned under the guidance of a realised spiritual master.
Divine Energy Transfusion
Our hands are more powerful than we often realise. This technique is based on the idea that we can absorb and transfer divine energy through them.
When visiting spiritual places like temples or shrines, instead of just offering prayers and leaving, try sitting quietly. Place your hands on a sacred object, such as an idol, shivlinga, or even a holy tree. Over time, you may begin to feel a subtle flow of energy entering your body.
This energy can also be shared. By gently placing your hands on someone who is unwell, you can transfer your positive energy, offering comfort and support.
Breathing with Awareness
Breathing is something we do every moment, yet we rarely pay attention to it. Spiritually, breath is not just air; it is prana, or life energy.
Most people practise shallow breathing without even realising it. We inhale only up to the chest and exhale halfway, never allowing our lungs to expand fully. In contrast, a newborn naturally breathes deeply, allowing the stomach to rise and fall.
By simply becoming aware of your breath, you can return to this natural rhythm. Inhale deeply so your stomach expands, and exhale fully. This improves oxygen intake, strengthens lung capacity, and increases the flow of pranic energy in the body.
Over time, conscious breathing can also help regulate emotions, reduce anger, and bring a sense of calm control over your reactions.
Meditating in Ancient and Holy Places
Sacred places are believed to hold a strong presence of divine energy. In contrast, crowded spaces like malls or public transport can often feel draining.
Spending a few quiet moments meditating in such holy places can help you recharge. Sitting silently in these environments allows you to absorb the positive energy around you, leaving you feeling refreshed, both mentally and physically.
Doing this regularly can strengthen your spiritual connection and improve how you think, feel, and respond to life.
Reliving Divine Moments
We all have moments in life when we feel deeply connected, peaceful, or spiritually uplifted. These moments carry a powerful emotional imprint.
Whenever you feel overwhelmed or low, take a few minutes to sit quietly and revisit those experiences in your mind. Relive the emotions, the surroundings, and the sense of peace you once felt.
This simple practice helps realign your mind with positivity and brings back that same sense of calm and strength, even during difficult times.
Whether you begin with mindful breathing or explore deeper practices like chakra meditation, what matters most is showing up every day. Over time, these small, mindful moments can lead to profound changes, helping you feel more balanced, aware, and connected.
