Team India’s purple patch expected to continue into 2022

[ad_1]

In what was a truly clinical performance by Team India, Virat Kohli and his men notched up a historic 113-run win in the first Test match in the ongoing series against South Africa at the Centurion. Not only was this India’s first ever victory at this venue, South Africa had never lost to an Asian side here before. In fact, the Proteas had just lost two Tests here before India’s victory. But throughout 2021, Team India has repeatedly proved that it is no longer a poor traveller. Gone are the days when the Indians were called sub-continental, flat-track bullies. At the Centurion, India outplayed South Africa in almost every department.

Actually, India’s victory at the Centurion and its epic triumph at Australia’s Gabba in the beginning of the year nicely bookends 2021. As a team at the pinnacle of Test cricket, this is as good as it gets. And most hearteningly, youngsters in the side like Mohammed Siraj, Shardul Thakur and Shubman Gill have stepped up. This shows that Indian Test cricket is in great hands.

After breaching Fortress Centurion, the challenge will be to continue this success into 2022. Preparations must also be underway for the 2023 ODI World Cup. Nonetheless, given the team’s recent successes, few will bet against it reaching even greater heights.
