Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao, on January 4, 2022, has announced the closures of all schools and colleges. The decision will take place from January 8, 2022, and will remain in effect till January 16, 2022. The orders to declare holidays for all Telangana educational institutions has been announced in light of an increase in Covid-19 cases and the Sankranthi holidays.

Schools And Colleges To Be Closed In Telangana

About two months ago, the Telangana schools and colleges were reopened with the proper implementation of Covid-19 safety standards. However, when the country began reporting an outbreak of Omicron variant, students of the state began to raise voices against offline classes, requesting that all schools be closed.

On Monday, January 3, 2022, CM Rao spoke at a Covid review meeting at Pragathi Bhawan, according to local media reports. Following an assessment of Telangana’s COVID situation, the Chief Minister urged concerned officials to make appropriate provisions in the state, including oxygen beds, hospitals, and other necessities. According to the sources, officials also discussed how a lockdown in the state could not be implemented at this time due to Centre rules.

Meanwhile, Telangana’s Sankranthi holidays were slated to start from January 11, 2022, for all educational institutions, as per a local media report. Due to an increase of Covid-19 cases, the government has opted to align these vacations with the festival. However, stakeholders have been informed that this report has not received official confirmation and is based only on local media reports.

Telangana’s decision to declare school and college closures is not the first time. Many governments have begun enforcing Covid limitations, primarily closing educational institutions for the safety of kids, as the country sees a rapid increase in daily Covid-19 infections and active cases reaching the 1 lakh mark.
