HYDERABAD: A pilot study by researchers at AIG Hospitals found that mixing Covishield and Covaxin during the first and second doses is more effective than taking two doses of a single vaccine. Spike-protein neutralising antibodies were significantly higher levels in the mixed vaccine groups than the same vaccine groups, the study showed.
“The third Covid wave has started in India ,” Dr D Nageshwar Reddy, chairman, AIG Hospitals, said. He added that “it is important to find out the cross-immunity generated by mixing of vaccines. It is crucial the safety profiles are well established before administrating different vaccines”. Reddy said, “We found that when the first and second doses are of different vaccines, the spike-protein antibody response is four times higher compared to two doses of the same vaccine.”
