NEW DELHI: Amid global concerns over the rampaging Omicron variant of Covid-19 virus, a new entity “Flurona” is causing fresh worries.
What’s Flurona?
Experts have confirmed, this not not a new variant, but a case of double infection
A patient is said to be infected by Flurona when s/he harbours the Covid-19 and influenza viruses in the body at the same time- a condition the huan body seems to allow.
This is somewhat similar to Delmicron- the attack of Delta and Omicron strains together.
The first case
The first infection of this kind was reported in an Israeli paper Yedioth Ahronoth, of a woman who entered a medical center last week to give birth. She had relatively mild symptoms and was not vaccinated.
The concerns
Data indicates that ‘Flurona’ may cause the emergence of a full range of severe symptoms, including pneumonia and other respiratory complications and myocarditis, which poses a risk of death in the absence of medical care.
Experts have also flagged Delmicron, a combination of Delta and Omicron variants, which might have caused the current surge in US and Europe.
