Weekend curfew in Delhi, Karnataka: States announce new curbs as Covid cases rise | India News

NEW DELHI: As Covid-19 cases continue to rise across the country, several states have imposed stricter restrictions to curb the surge.
While some states shut down schools and colleges, states like Karnataka and Delhi which has witnessed a spurt in Covid-19 cases in the past few days imposed weekend curfew.
Here are the new restrictions imposed by several states:
Delhi
– There will be a curfew on Saturdays and Sundays. The weekend curfew will begin from Friday evening to Monday morning.
-During weekdays, government employees, barring those engaged in essential services, will work from home, while private offices will remain open with 50 per cent capacity.
– Buses and metros will return to running to their full seating capacity.
– Night curfew from 11 pm to 5 pm, is already imposed in Delhi since December 27.
Uttar Pradesh
– From January 6, the night curfew hours would also be extended by two hours. It will now be in place from 10 pm to 6 am.
– All government and private schools will remain closed up to class 10 till January 14.
– From January 6, not more than 100 people will be allowed at any event, including weddings, if they are held in a closed hall or room. In open places, not more than 50% of the capacity of the ground will be permitted.
Gyms, spas, cinema halls, banquet halls, restaurants and other public places can be operated at only 50% capacity.
Karnataka
-Weekend curfew in Karnataka from January 7.
– Night curfew will continue to be imposed from 10pm to 5am in the entire state as per the existing guidelines.
– In Bengaluru, all schools and colleges except, Medical and Para Medical will remain closed with effect from January 6 except class 10, 11 and 12.
– Pubs/clubs/restaurants/bars/hotels/eating places in hotel etc, will function with 50% of the seating capacity.
– Cinema halls/multiplexes/theatres/rangamandiras/auditorium and similar places to operate with 50% of its seating capacity.
Bihar
– Night curfew imposed in the state from 10pm to 5am. It shall remain in force till January 21.
– Schools shall remain closed for up to Class 8 though online teaching will be allowed.
– Offices, government as well as private, shall be permitted to function with not more than 50 per cent attendance.
– Gyms, cinema halls, swimming pools and stadiums to be shut.
– Restaurants and Dhabas will be operational with 50 per cent occupancy.
-Maximum 50 persons will be allowed in marriages and 20 in funerals.
Punjab
– Bars, cinemas halls, malls, restaurants, spas, AC buses will operate at 50 per cent capacity subject to staff being fully vaccinated.
– Swimming pools and gyms remain closed.
– Only fully vaccinated staff will be able to attend government and private offices.
– Non-essential movement will be banned from 10 pm to 5 am. If night curfew is violated, then legal action will be taken. The principle of ‘No mask, no service’ will be followed.
Chhattisgarh
– Night curfew from 10pm to 6am.
– Ban imposed on processions, rallies, public gatherings, social, cultural and sports events in every district.
– Random testing for Covid-19 will be conducted at railway stations and borders of the state.
– Daily reporting of hospital beds, stock of medicines, and availability of oxygen.
– In districts with a positivity rate of 4 per cent or more all schools, Anganwadi centres, libraries, swimming pools, malls, cinemas, marriage palaces, hotels, restaurants, auditoriums should be closed.
