Bulli Bai app case: Bengaluru student sent to police custody till January 10 | Mumbai News

MUMBAI: A local court on Tuesday remanded the 21-year-old civil engineering student, arrested in the Bulli Bai app case from Bengaluru, in Mumbai Police‘s custody till January 10.
One more person has been detained in the case.
The 21-year-old suspect was picked up reportedly after his involvement was found for the derogatory contents and remarks he had shared through the app.
His location was tracked within two days after the Mumbai cyber police (west) registered a case of stalking, sexual harassment and defamation against all those who were involved and used the ‘Bulli Bai’ app to upload doctored photographs of at least 100 prominent Muslim women that were put up for auction online on January 1.

One detained
The cyber police also detained one more in the case on Tuesday.
Joint commissioner of police (crime) Milind Bharambe confirmed the arrest and the detention of the second person. He did not divulge further details.
The Mumbai Police has registered an FIR against unidentified persons who uploaded photographs of Muslim women on a GitHub application Bulli Bai and auctioned them by using their names and photos sourced from their social media accounts.

The Bengaluru student was detained by tracing him through the internet protocol (IP) address of the Twitter accounts that were used to upload the photographs and derogatory contents.
The west region cyber police station has registered the case under the IPC sections 153(A) (spreading enmity), 153(B) (imputations, Assertions to national integration), 295(A) (outraging religious feelings), 354D (stalking), 509 (sexual harassment), 500 (defamation) and under IT Act section 67 (publishes or transmits obscene materials) against above-mentioned Twitter handle holders and ‘Bulli Bai’ app developer.
