NEW DELHI: As the lone woman representative of the 31-member parliamentary stan-ding committee on education, women, children, youth and sports, TMC’s Rajya Sabha member Sushmita Dev has written to panel chairman Vinay Sahasrabuddhe to involve women members from both Houses to discuss the Child Marriage (Amendment) Bill 2021, that has been sent to the committee by Lok Sabha after its introduction during the last winter session.
Shiv Sena member of Rajya Sabha Priyanka Chaturvedi also made the same suggestion as she sought more representation of women in the parliamentary panel that will deliberate on a bill to raise the legal age of women for marriage to 21.
In a letter to Rajya Sabha Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu, she said the parliamentary panel concerned has just one woman member.
The first meeting of the panel is scheduled for January 5.
