Kabir Khan’s sports drama ‘83‘ starring Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone, Pankaj Tripathi and many others was expected to smash box office records. However the film failed to live upto the expectations. So far, the film has collected Rs 79.46 crore at the box office in 9 days. According to boxofficeindia.com, ’83’ (Hindi) has had insanely low footfalls with hardly 38 lakh tickets sold in the first week.

This number is much lower than Shah Rukh Khan‘s ‘Zero’ (39 lakh tickets) that was a debacle at the box office.

’83’ also has the highest ticket rates for a Hindi film, and trade experts believe that this is also a reason contributing to the failure. On the contrary, lower ticket price would have led to even lower collection.

Check out the footfalls of Hindi films made on a cost of Rs 200 crore or more:

‘Tiger Zinda Hai’ – 3.09 crore

‘Padmaavat; – 2.34 crore

‘War’ – 2.16 crore

‘Bharat’ – 1.61 crore

‘Sooryavanshi’ – 1.25 crore apprx

‘Thugs Of Hindostan’ – 1.12 crore

‘Zero’ – 69 lakh

’83’ – 38 lakh approx (1 week)

‘83’ also faced losses when theatres in Delhi were shut down due to the rise in Covid-19 cases. According to Boxofficeindia.com, ‘83’ could be facing a loss of nearly Rs 50 crore.

Directed by Kabir Khan, this film narrates the story of the Indian cricket team’s win during the cricket World Cup in 1983. ‘83’ also stars Tahir Raj Bhasin, Jiiva, Saqib Saleem, Jatin Sarna, Chirag Patil, Dinker Sharma, Nishant Dahiya, Harrdy Sandhu, Sahil Khattar, Ammy Virk, Adinath Kothare, Dhairya Karwa and R Badree in pivotal roles.
