NEW DELHI: The BJP on Sunday questioned SP leader Akhilesh Yadav over his promise to provide free electricity in Uttar Pradesh with senior party leader Dharmendra Pradhan asking what the former chief minister had done when he headed the state government.
“The Congress was in power in the state for forty years. The Samajwadi Party (SP) has ruled thrice. Akhilesh Yadav was chief minister for five years. Why was electricity not made free?” Pradhan asked.
Pradhan, who is the Union education minister, is also the BJP’s election incharge for Uttar Pradesh.
He further hit out at SP claiming that when the opposition party was ruling the state barring Azam Khan‘s Rampur and Saifai, the native place of Akhilesh Yadav, the entire state faced an erratic electric supply.

Earlier, Samjawadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav, while expressing new year wishes to the people, announced that on returning to power his party would make upto 300 units of electricity free for households. He had also said that power supply for irrigation will also be made free.

Pradhan, however, sought to make light of the SP’s promises. He said those who had made ‘goondaraj’ (hooliganism) free were now talking of making electricity free.

The BJP leader further attacked SP claiming that its credibility was low and it would again be defeated at the hustings. The union minister claimed that Yadav was also making claims related to construction of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya while the same party had once ordered firing on devotees of Lord Ram.
