Covid: India reports 27,553 fresh cases; Omicron tally now 1,525 | India News

NEW DELHI: 27,553 fresh cases were reported from across the country in the last 24 hours, according to information released by the health ministry on Sunday morning.
Another 284 deaths have taken the cumulative fatalities to 481,770.
The number of fresh infections is the highest since September 25.
The total number of infections with the Omicron variant is now 1,525, up from 1,431 reported yesterday. Of those, 560 patients have already recovered or been discharged.
Maharashtra (460) continues to top the chart in Omicron infections, followed by Delhi (351). Gujarat, Tamil Nadu and Kerala too have over 100 Omicron cases each. The variant has now been detected in 23 states and UTs.
Daily positivity rate has now climbed to 2.55%, and weekly positivity to 1.35%.
India’s active caseload currently stands at 1,22,801, accounting for 0.35% of total cases; the recovery rate is at 98.27%.
145.44 crore vaccine doses have been administered nationwide in the anti-Covid inoculation drive.
Over 19.81 crore vaccine doses are now available with the states, the ministry release said.
